Effortless summer style: burnt brick, trousers & A.P.C

Gilet: Aritzia | Tee: Calvin Klein | Trousers: Theory | Sunglasses: Kopajos | Trainers: A.P.C

Hello friends!

While in Paris a few weeks ago, I would often sit on outdoor patios reading. Not only did I finish a lot of books as a result, but I also observed a lot of passerby. Whether I was in Pigalle or the 6th, the girls of Paris were drawn to two of my favourite summer items: trousers and trainers.

Although my affinity for the latter is quite obvious (***Princess in Trainers***), the pairing of both, and my love for trousers is less so. When these girls strolled by, they weren’t wearing fully-buttoned pantsuits or thick wool blazers. Instead, they paired loose-fit or stretch trousers with casual teeshirts and understated trainers (similar to the A.P.C pair I’m wearing above). In fact, I highly recommend A.P.C as a brand — they have the whole ‘effortless yet street-chic Francophone’ thing down pat. Personally, I’ll be shopping exclusively in their sale section (their stuff is so cool and timeless — even the 50% off rack).

So, why am I obsessed with trousers? Well, Besides the fact that they are often longer in length than jeans, and tend to appear intentionally cropped or perfect in length, the fabric combines stretch with structure, combining what pretentious people call ‘polish’ with ‘ease’. Whether you have a lunch meeting or a summer internship, this combination is great for those in the fashion world who want to appear un-fussy yet styled.

Inspired by the ladies of France, I’ve been wearing bolder colours with pastels (particularly pinks or blues), and have been opting for either completely white or vintage-y brown leather trainers. For the look above, I opted for brown because of the ‘vintage’ vibe of my sandy & peach pinks. To play up whatever I’m wearing even more, tinted lenses are pretty much a must.

As much as I love this summer look, its important to think about fall at this time of year (you’ll only have a couple more months to wear these summer clothes — let’s be real). To transition this look into fall, I will probably find some cool Happy Socks to show off the crop, platform AF1’s and a lightweight bomber jacket.

Although all of the items in my look (except the sunglasses) were bought on sale (and thus, pretty hard to find), I’ve rounded up similar picks below:

That’s it for this week! I hope you’ve found some inspiration from my post. Be sure to share your trouser pics with me on Instagram @stephieirwin 🙂 .
